And it gave me the perfect opening for this blogpost, that feels a bit like a farewell note;
I’m quitting this blog.

Let it Spark Joy

When the Universe says some things should be done for the fun of it, I invite you to stretch your mind a bit. All things should be done for the fun of it. And I recommend the KonMarie solution for all that doesn’t spark joy;
Toss it.
Or, if it’s impossible to remove, simply stop paying any attention to it.

Should you immediately think of death, disease, and dental treatment;
“How are you going to get away with that one huh?”
Yes, I can. For myself personally, that is what I choose.
But for now just focus about the smaller irritations such as (your response to) the que at the grocery shop, the icky neighbor, health worries and so on.
And try out any new belief or thought you can come up with to make it fun.
Such as;
I m so grateful the supermarket is open on Sunday!
or
I’m so happy with my apartment!
or
It’s so great I get excellent dental care and have such a friendly dentist!

Fun is definitely an underrated human emotion. It’s like the Oscars where dramas are awarded yet comedies are rarely rewarded. When it’s much more difficult to make people laugh than to make them cry or to make them angry.

I invite you to become the comedian of your own life. You will be a light to others and yourself, that’s how it works.

I m quitting this blog because I’m creating space for other things. If I continued it would stop being fun.

Your big WHY (and the HOWS are the domain of the Universe)

One of the journeys I m embarking on is an experiment called; Unscripted. This means I m no longer preparing my classes, but instead fully connect to the moment and the people in the room. In theory I was going to use the cards from the Notes of the UniverseBut yesterday I noticed that (although i ll bring them to class) I want the freedom to replace that by other lessons. The cards are beautiful and meaningful, and I ll post them weekly to Twitter and Facebook, and I may use them. But I won’t blog about them.

Instead of blogging about personal development (or Notes of the Universe) I m committed to three online projects, and I invite you to follow the ones that appeal to you;
– I m on a daily yoga quest and share my personal practice every night on Facebook and Twitter
– I’m on a daily writing quest (erotica and diaries) and share my efforts every night on the LS Harteveld Facebook and LS Harteveld Twitter under my penname.
– I m on a 51 week Madonna yoga video quest, which I will pick up, but without any obligation or consistency and do it for fun. New Madonna video’s will be posted to my YouTube

I may be doing updates on my yoga & writing challenge on this blog (every month or so), or blog overviews of my Madonna videos every 3-6 weeks. But I need a little more time to see how that all pans out.

How can I love (and help you) you more

I m still in touch with my professor from Uni. He became head of the University later on, and would often collide with other teachers.
“It’s almost like they don’t understand the reason you re here is to love students.”

That will be my number 1 guideline with everything I do in 2017; Love.

How can I bring more love to my time with you?
How can we connect more?
How can we deepen our relationship?

And although my initial focus will be the real life classes, I ve already encountered one area in which I can be of service to many women; I have the knowledge and experience to compose a new series of exercises, a new theory and maybe even a book to help women going through menopause, but really for all women any age.

The moment this idea emerged, it was like the Universe answered by sending women my way who were suffering and needed this sooner rather than later. That’s when I knew;
this is my calling. I really want to do this.

So that’s another reason I ve given up writing here; I want to document and transfer all knowledge and experience I ve acquired over the years on staying young and healthy. I m planning on having my first (Dutch) yoga bundle ready in February. I think I ll call it Stay Young, Stay Sappig (juicy) after the famous expression from Steve Jobs, Stay Young Stay Foolish.

Inspiration 2017 & Yoga Journal Setup

Make it a daily habit to think positive, and to get on the mat more frequently?

In 2017 I ll be taking a new deck with me to class; the Notes from the Universe. This deck was released in 2016, but the Notes go way back to 1998 when it started as a daily pick-you-up email from The Universe.

To sparkle your yoga practice, or theme out your new year, you can use any inspirational card deck of your choosing, and/or become a member of the Notes of the Universe email service.

Tip for members; If you’re already a member, you may want to update your settings, and check the box Love Your Life 30 Day Project It’s something I encountered writing this blospost, and it looked like fun. It begins January first. If you checked the box anyway 😉

Your Practice

In order to make 2017 successful yoga wise, I recommend you give it some thought which program you’re going to do. I ll give you three options here, but naturally the possibilities are endless.

1. You can use last week’s 8 class bundle (Dutch/ Nederlands)
The eight classes consist of multiple smaller videos, so you can always pick something of your liking. And I updated the post, so it now looks extra appealing and contains cute cards!

Are you ready to fly? Toss aside all yoga print-outs and schedules (including your own) and get in tune with what is, and what is needed. Move from the heart, not the head. My inspiration for this type of yoga is Meghan Currie, and Unscripted it’s the style I ll be practicing and teaching, for the whole year.

A Journal

I ve had a bit of an obsession with journals and planners this year, but the moment I decided I was going to create a separate journal for yoga, I knew I meant business! 😀 A Journal is the energy of commitment.

Here are all the obvious and less obvious things I ll be collecting, logging, and journaling on.

*A to-do list for the Universe
Here’s where I put all the things I have no control over, or that would cost me a lot of money or energy to fix. For example; put my bottom front teeth in one line and heal my cat Max.
* Quotes
I ll note down inspiring quotes I encounter. Either collecting them on separate pages, or incorporate them in the daily entries. I haven’t really decided yet.
* weekly note from the Universe
I’ll select one card every week and copy that to my journal as the leading theme or thought
* yoga logging per day
I ll note down the duration of my practice, more or less what I did, and how long my practice was.

That’s it so far for the journal! Although I m sure I’ll come up with more.

I intend to film weekly or monthly flip-throughs of my yoga journal, so you’ll see how it went.

Finish Strong; Throw away life’s script and learn to dance

“Maybe you should delete the first paragraph.”

What?! The first paragraph?! The sentences I went through over and over, to improve them until I knew they were perfect? Not that paragraph!

And my mother would cover the first paragraph of my letter, or column (I can’t remember) with her hand and say;
“Like this.”
And just like that, the text was fresh, captivating and original. The first paragraph had been nothing more than dead weight. It had been a stage, a step in the process, to go to the next. Now that I saw it, there was no way I could see the first paragraph as being perfect. Or justifying all the extra thought I put into it.

But it took a while to get over the time lost, and to learn to see it as being in service of bringing me something bigger.

It’s the same with life in general, or reviewing 2016.

If you keep “fixing” where you think “it” (money, health, love) should come from, or if you look back at 2016 looking for generic signs this year was a success then you are basically making adjustments to the first paragraph of your life.

What if you would look at it fresh? What if someone would cover up all your preconceived ideas of success, and then you had to look for what went well? For what made you feel good. For what you could appreciate, made you stronger, kinder, more spiritual, or more whole?

The biggest thing you can take from 2016, are not the goals you achieved, nor the resolutions you kept, but everything that changed you, for the better.

Or that has the potential to do so, the moment you fricking let go of that first paragraph.

 

2017; Unscripted

It took me a while to understand my plans for this blog too, were nothing more than a first paragraph problem. Maybe you remember, but I intended to create a 6 month CEO Life Program; an empowerment course in my blog and Premium yoga classes in Nijmegen.

Thankfully, I soon realized that this initial plan wasn’t going to work. At that moment I still loved the idea of the CEO Life blog, but I was already convinced the CEO blog would need an antidote when people came to yoga. In my mind I called it “The Lover” or even flat out “The Pleasure Program” when I thought of my new relaxation course.

The cerebral and masculine CEO needed a feminine counter part. It needed the joy of feeling good exactly as things are. I wanted my classes to be like dates; something you highly anticipate going to, and that brings out the best in you.

That’s when I decided that my yoga classes in 2017 would be Unscripted. For the first time in my career I would let go of all schedules, all planning, and offer myself and my students the “dance” of being in the moment. Of feeling good in the now.

And just this morning I realized; that’s the true gold. That’s my true Premium program. That is the Mastership I have to offer in 2017;

How to feel good in the moment.

Not neutral. Not accept it. Or endure it.
But bask on it! Fall in love. Anticipate.

Regardless of the situation, find something you love, something you appreciate (and I did intend to offer plenty of things that could be loved!) and navigate your thoughts to the emotional waters of your choosing.

It was not the CEO that was fundamentally going change anything for anybody. It was not planning, more knowledge, or better goals. The talent I had to offer, the skill, the dating metaphor, and the gift I wanted to share, was the same thing that had been the cause of war once it lacked. And the cause of joy when it resurfaced.

What I was going to offer in 2017, was love.

Date me

I still have tons of work to do. To clear the CEO page on this blog, cancel the CEO course, delete all CEO references in the language from my website, and rewrite the rest. Yes! Tons of stuff.

Although polishing can take me up to three days, I expect to have the first version up within 24 hours.

I have one course that I can’t wait to get “back on the menu” in this new format. It’s my Monday 20.30 Vinyasa Yoga course, that didn’t make it through to the end of the year. This course will return as the flagship of positive, high energy yoga. This group will be your (and mine!) way to strengthen your happiness muscles, and to learn to stand your ground, in the midst of challenge.

It will be a Premium course and will cost €397 (just like my other Premiums). So if you have any I-owe-yous from me, or just a damn good story of why you want to get in for the old 2016 price, you have till Christmas to bribe me 😉

BONUS STORY

stoya-taking-a-bath-and-talking-about-her-new-pay-per-scene-website-body-image-1425656872-805x1030The title of this blog was originally “Throw away life’s script and learn to direct”. Until I realized I had no room to tell what I meant by this, and dropped the whole storyline (chosing “dance” instead”).
And then forgot to change the title…

To make sure everybody receives the right link, I don’t want to mess up the URL. So I changed the title (to dance) but will tell you the story, about Unscripted yoga. And why it orignally said “learn to direct”.

Here’s the story 😉 (told with great joy!)

Calling it Unscripted yoga didn’t come from Meghan Currie (as the photo at the top may suggest). It came from my month long membership from a porn site TrenchcoatX. All videos from my “favorite” porn star Stoya (the apostrophes stand for “completely singular obsession not to be replaced by any other woman”) were announced to be Unscripted. Which proved to be an understatement. Stoya (being the 50% owner of TrenchcoatX) took a camera, which she still had to figure out how to operate, and hooked up with several male pornstars in different cities around the world. The result was something that not just lacked a script, but also lacked proper lighting, juicy camera angles (I m pretty unapologetic in my preferences!) and basically just a whole general idea about what it is they wanted to make. All videos suffered the same ailment. All except one. One that I kept watching over and over again.

It was a video with an elderly male porn star, shot in a Paris hotel room. And this video was so fascinating and perfect to me, that I didn’t rest until I knew exactly why this was so good. While all the others where not. And then I solved the riddle; HE was holding the camera. HE was directing her. He talked. He encouraged. He complimented. He took the whole thing to heights that will probably never ever be achieved again. And then I Googled him, and I learned he wasn’t “just” a porn star, like the others had been. He had shifted to directing porn decades ago, and apparently still performed as well. But he was a director!

That’s when I realized in porn; it’s never, ever, about the script. It’s not about the talent, not about the location, it’s not about the lighting or the type of camera you use. It’s about who directs it.

And it didn’t took me very long to realize that yoga and life, can be understood using exactly the same principle. But it’s up to you, to take that seat in the directors chair.

Finish Strong; 17 Before 17

When I created the list of things I want to finish in 2016, I came to about ten. Obviously with room to expand it to 17 tasks.

Some to-dos were small, yet I was sure I would drag them into the next year if I didn’t do anything about it. Others were daunting, because I failed so many times in the past. And yet I know it’s not the number of hours that’s going to cost to get the job done, that’s the biggest problems. It’s something else.
Fear.

Take the smallest step

Fear of failing is number one cause of procrastination. So instead of making myself “just do it”, I broke my to-dos down to the smallest steps imaginable. Thus I created a new list with 10 infinitely small steps.

o photocopy 4 sheets for accountant
The steps are so small I cannot fail.

And for every task I have done, I tag it off, and make it a rolling to-do list, placing the next smallest step at the bottom.

In the videos I give an explanation why this album was my single most important influence. Without Madonna’s turbulent early 90s record, there wouldn’t be the Suzanne as we know her today.

I m posting three Madonna yoga videos a week, and together they are a longer practice. So on Monday, Wednesday, Friday you get the new videos as a YouTube subscriber, and every Tuesday I will give you this overview and supply a master schedule as well.

Finish Strong; Childhood Memories

She’s got a smile it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I’d stare too long
I’d probably break down and cry

Okay, it wasn’t exactly childhood. But 1993 is still ancient, and music still had that highly emotional vibe to it, reserved for the youth. I had been a fan long enough to own the raped by robot cover, to be the proud owner of a One in Million shirt, and to know all lyrics of Appetite for Destruction, and Use Your Illusion I & II. It were the hay days of hardrock and for years there had only been one go-to for all girls who had lost their concert virginity with Bon Jovi as young as 15;

I had already been to Slayer, Motorhead, Suicidal Tendencies, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, and I had been to the 92 Rotterdam concert of Guns n Roses, when early 1993 they announced they would do Holland yet again.
Twice.

This time it would be in Nijmegen where I live now, but I didn’t in 1993 though. To get tickets I spent the whole night with a college friend on the sidewalk at a recordshop in Groningen. When the shop opened at 10, they had to put up crush barriers to keep order.

By the time it was 11 we had tickets, went to his place and took a shower together.

We stayed together for 14 years. And I don’t regret a single one of them.
